My wisdom tooth I just submitted my thesis last week. And now I'm in a state similar to a post-examination syndrome. I felt so relieved, and I want to have fun, but everytime I slacked, I felt guilty. I certainly still have things to do around the lab - I'm being paid by my supervisor afterall. But I want to take it easy for the meantime. Call it a blessing in disguise or whatever, but the very day I submitted my thesis, my wisdom tooth started acting up. For three years I have defied my dentist's advice to remove it as its position poses a potential problem in the future, and yet it had not given me any problems until recently. Yesterday was my first dental visit in Singapore. We found out that my right lower wisdom tooth was infected, probably due to its improper eruption from the gum, such that the gum overlying it was constantly irritated from my chewing food, and at some point, was invaded by some naughty microorganisms. The dentist also did an X-ray of my lower right jaw - something the dentist in Jakarta never did - and found out that despite the proper alignment of my wisdom tooth, it didn't fully emerge to the surface. Thus he strongly suggested to remove both the lower and upper right teeth to avoid further problems. He pointed out that the roots of the lower tooth was rather broad, which may slightly complicate the extraction procedure. Hence it would take a minor surgery to remove the lower one, which means a five days MC for me. Apart from that, he foresaw no other major complications. Although the clinic quoted a slightly higher rate for wisdom tooth extraction compared to that in Jakarta, I could claim 100% of the cost for surgery using my medisave here. At least for the lower tooth extraction which costs ~S$450, coz it's considered a surgery. The upper tooth extraction is normally easier according to the two dentists I consulted, and would cost somewhere between S$80 - S$120, which is not covered by medisave. I will be going for the extraction tomorrow afternoon. I hope everything will be alright. It's kind of scary for me, but I'm sure it's for the best in the long run. And I'm so looking forward to continue my long neglected FFX during my 5 days MC... or maybe working on my second paper would be better? 0 Comments: |
