The rhythm of life I went to a friend's wedding today. It's nice to catch up with everyone, especially with my long time high school friends. One interesting fact, is that of all our friends who had their wedding within the past 2 years, at least 4 of them are expecting their first children. And that's not about it, I found out that they are actually all around the same stage of their pregnancy. I can start to see a rhythm in our life. One of it involves the pattern of migration. When we just graduated from high school, that was the first 'great migration' where most of us will go our separate ways to continue our education. The second wave of migration occurs about now, where we have all graduated from university and have finished serving our bond with the Singapore government for the subsidized education we received. Although most of our friends are still in Singapore, several of them are already settling down overseas, and many are seriously thinking of moving elsewhere. Another rhythm I could see is how everyone tend to wed at around the same time (within 2-3 years). Suddenly, people I know are getting married, and we have to attend weddings at least (almost) once a month. And now, the baby boom thingy. Perhaps I am overstating it. But anyhow, I am quite happy for all our friends who are entering a new phase of life: parenthood. Or, should I say, months of sleepless nights, of deafening crying and wailing noises, of tiredness, of lack of freedom, of drastic change of lifestyle, and also of endless enchanting moments. I guess it's worrying, because when someone is able to see a rhythm in his/her generation, it could mean that he/she had lived a substantial amount of years. Confusing? Let's use a simple physics formula as our guiding principle: frequency = wavelength/time --> increase of frequency requires an increase in wavelength --> number of rhythm of life we can see corresponds to the length of our life itself, or more precisely, how long we have lived up to the point of analysis).
